  • We are finishing up Mystery at Cranberry Farm this week.  The students have loved every second of it and I am sad to be finishing it on Tuesday.  Keep an eye out for a novel project that I will be assigning mid-week.
  • We are continuing to work on our persuasive writing throughout the week. The students will be choosing their topic to write about mid-week as well.
  • My math students were on fire this week!  I am so proud of their efforts!
  • I would like to extend an invitation to any parent/guardian who would like to come in and read a favorite book to our class for Family Literacy Day on Friday, January 27. If you are interested, you can either send in a note, give me a call, or send an email (klmullins@edu.pe.ca) to set up a time. We would love to have you!
  • Last full week of January....let's have a great one!

Sunday, January 15, 2012

  • We will be continuing to read Mystery at Cranberry Farm this week.  I am positive that everyone is enjoying the novel.  One of my favorite feelings as a teacher is to have my students want to continue reading.  I had this feeling every single day this week. :o)
  • We have been talking about the reading comprehension strategy of "Evaluating."  To evaluate, readers need to: recognize the difference between fiction, non-fiction, and info-fiction texts, form opinions about the content presented to them, be willing to confirm or adjust their opinions as they read and learn others' view, see events from other people's perspectives, back up their opions with evidence from the text, and critique the author's craft.
  • The grade 5' are having an oral math fact quiz on Thursday. Mr. Martin has been sending home flash cards for the grade 4's each night to be reviewed.
  • I am looking forward to another great week!

Sunday, January 8, 2012

  • I am so excited to be starting our novel study on Mystery at Cranberry Farm!  This is my favorite fictional novel and I hope the students enjoy it as much as I do! We will be working on persuasive writing over the next few weeks as well.
  • Book order is due on Tuesday, January 10th.
  • The Grade 5's have started a new unit on multiplying and dividing larger numbers.  It is very important for the students to be reviewing math facts each night. They will be having an oral quiz on their math facts on Thursday, January 19th.
  • Have a great week everyone!

  • A big thank you to everyone who sent in ticket money, pj money, and stew packs.  I am always amazed at the support that our parents give our school.
  • I am so proud of my class for their behaviour on our trip to the Wyatt Center on Thursday.  All students were great listeners and were very polite. Thanks to Tammy for helping out!
  • Please be sure to send in the permission slips for our field trip to see "The Sound of Music" on Wednesday, December 14.  The cost is 5.00 per student and we will be going out to eat at Burger King after the show.  Students may bring a snack that can fit into their pocket to have during the show and they are more than welcome to bring their lunch if they choose.
  • Christmas concert will be Thursday, December 15 at 1:00 pm.
  • Please have the Secret Santa gifts in by December 15.  It is a $5.00 limit.
  • Grade 5's have a Math test on Tuesday.
  • I have assigned a Social Studies project for the Grade 5's that will be due next Monday.
  • Grade 4's have an oral evaluation on their Social Studies unit with Ms.Stark on Tuesday.
  • Keep up the 20 min. of reading each night.
  • This is the last week that Ms. Stark will be with us.  I want to take this opportunity to thank her for all of her hard work with the students over the last four weeks.

Sunday, December 4, 2011

  • Lunch money for the month of December is due Monday morning.
  • We will be going on our field trip to the Wyatt Heritage Properties on Thursday. Please make sure the permission slips and $2.00 are handed in as soon as possible.  We will be eating at Wendy's on the way back to school. The students can bring their lunch if they wish.
  • Please make sure that everyone has warm clothing at school.  I noticed last week that some of the students were getting pretty muddy.  It might be a good idea to stick an extra pair of pants in their kit bags.
  • Book orders are due on Wednesday.
  • We drew for Secret Santa last Thursday and I would ask that the $5.00 gifts be in by Dec. 15.
  • A big thank you to everyone who came out to the rink Saturday night.  I had a lot of fun!
