- I would like to welcome everyone to my blog! I will be doing my best to update it each Sunday (this week on Tuesday night:o). Please check on a weekly basis!
- Gr. 2 Lang. Arts- I am having such a great week with your children. They have such great manners and are working hard. We have been discussing the theme of friendship and what makes a good friend. Be sure to check the blog by Sunday because I will be explaining the homework routines that will be starting Monday, Sept. 19.
- Grade 4 Math- I am over the moon with excitement to be teaching these students again! I can't believe how they have grown over the summer. This week I am encouraging them to practice their math facts nightly. I will be sending home a letter next week explaining a math site that they can play at home for homework. My daughters are both on it and it is super! I will explain more on the blog update on Sunday. We have been working with our first outcome which is representing numbers to 10 000. They have been practicing base ten pictures/words, expanded form, written and standard form of numbers.
- Grade 3 Math- Please have your children be practicing their math facts nightly. I have enjoyed getting to know everyone this week. I will be sending home a letter next week explaining a fun online math program that we will be using at school and students can use at home. We have been working on our first outcome which is representing numbers to 1000. This means students must read numbers, draw base ten pictures, use expanded form, and put the words in writing.
- Have a great rest of the week!

Week of May of 30- June 3
- I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!
- It is hard to believe that we are coming into the month of June. Students should be reviewing their facts nightly. I will be doing some final wrap-up assessments throughout the month of June.
- Gr. 3 and 6 provincial math assessments will be held next Wednesday and Thursday, June 8&9. Please be sure your child is well rested.
- My extra help classes will be Tuesday for Gr. 6 and Wednesday for the Gr. 3's.
- The grade 3's will be having a small quiz on Wednesday and it will cover edges, vertices, and faces of 3D shapes along with sorting various polygons according to number of sides. For ex. triangle-3 sides, quadrilateral -4 sides, pentagon- 5 sides, hexagon- 6 sides, octagon- 8 sides. The 4's will be describing rectangular and triangular prisms and they will have to construct these 3D shapes from a net.
- Grade 6- we have been working on transformational geometry. This includes translations(slides), reflections (flips) and rotations (turns) of a shape. We have also starting investigating when to use certain types of graphs to display certain types of data.
- Have a great week everyone.

Week of May 16-20
- I hope everyone had a great weekend!
- First of all, I would like to congratulate all of the students for being so well behaved at the Confederation Center on Thursday.
- Grade 3/4 class will continue to work on naming solid shapes and being able to determine how many edges, verticies, and faces each shape has. We will also start to look and the difference between polygons (regular and irregular) and non-polygons. The students will learn to sort the polygons according to number of sides. Please work on math facts nightly.
- Grade 6 will be working on transformational geometry. This includes performing successive translations, rotations, and reflections of shapes. Please continue the math fact review nightly.
- This week the grade 6 will have an extra help class on Tuesday from 245-345 and the grade 3's will have their help class on Thursday from 245- 345.
- I hope everyone has a wonderful week.

Week of May 9-13
- I hope everyone had a beautiful weekend!
- The grade 3 and 4's have been working on sorting and classifying 3D shapes. We have also been learning about verticies, edges, and faces of solid shapes.
- Grade 3 assessments are coming up on June 8 and 9, so please keep reviewing those adding and subtracting facts each night. I will also be having an extra help class for the gr. 3's on Thursday, May 12 from 2:45-3:45. If students plan to stay, they will need to have a note for their homeroom teacher and they will have to be picked up. This will be a great opportunity to review outcomes from throughout the year.
- Grade 6's will be having their quiz on order of operations on Tuesday (I was planning on having it last Thursday, but I was at a meeting). The math assessments are coming up on June 8 and 9 and I will be having our first extra help class this Tuesday, May 10. If students are planning on staying, they will need to get picked up at 3:45 and they must have a note for Ms. Howman to say they are staying.
- Have a great week everyone!

Week of May 2-5
- I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend and is enjoying this beautiful weather!
- The grade 3's and 4's just had a quiz on adding, subtracting, units of time, and telling time. I will send these quizzes home tom. with the students. Please sign and return. We have been working on our next outcome which is investigating 3D objects such as spheres, cones, rectangular/triangular prisms, and cubes. Students are exploring how many edges, vertices, and faces each object has.
- The grade 6's have finished up constructing and sorting triangles last week and are moving into their next outcome which is understanding "order of operations." There will be a small quiz on Thursday.
- I will be starting to have after school help sessions for the gr. 3 and 6's. Their provincial assessments are coming up on June 8 and 9. I will be sending out a letter on Wednesday with the dates and times. I would encourage the students to stay and get extra practice! :o)
- Have a great week everyone!

Week of April 18-22
- Wow! Hard to believe we are into spring.
- Grade 3/4 Math- we have been working on telling time on digital and analog clocks over the last couple of weeks. The 3's have also been working with units of time (seconds, minutes, hours, days, months). The 3's have also been working on adding and subtracting numbers to 1000, while the 4's have been working on adding and subtracting numbers to 10 000. I will be having a quiz on these outcomes on Friday for the students. I would ask everyone to keep practicing their facts. That is my homework expectation....10 min. each night.
- Grade 6 Math- We have been working on classifying triangles according to sides and angles over the last two weeks. Students have also been constructing different types of triangles and understanding that the sum of the interior angles of a triangle is 180 degrees. We will be having a quiz on this either Thursday or Friday of this week. Please keep reviewing facts at night.
- I will be starting to have some extra help classes the second week in May for the grade 3 and 6 students in order to prepare for the math assessment in June. I will send home a parent letter close to the end of April.
- Have a great week everyone.
