Grade 3- the students have been doing a great job working with increasing and decreasing patterns. They have remembered the 3 key parts when explaining a pattern....The pattern rule is it starts at 150 and adds 25 each time. The students need 1) starting point 2) adding or subtracting 3) the amount. We are now working on representing data with tallys, line plots, and tables/charts. The grade 3's have also been learning how to interpret information from bar graphs and this week we will be learning to construct them. Please continue to practice facts nightly.
Grade 4- the students have been looking at patterns in multiplication charts, 100's charts, and patterns in tables. The grade 4's started working with pictographs and bar graphs last week and we will continue to work on this concept this week. It is very important to be working on their multiplication/division facts to 81 nightly.
Grade 6- we have been working on input/output tables and finding the pattern rules within these tables. The 6's learned how to plot ordered pairs onto a Cartesian plane and then we worked on finding a pattern, creating a table with that information, and then graphing that information. I will be assessing them on these outcomes Thursday, Feb. 25. Please work on math facts nightly.

Gr.3- I would like everyone to be continuing to work on their adding/subtracting facts to 18 on a nightly basis. Parents, you could also practice skip counting in the evenings by 3's, 4's and 5's. I will be sending home their quizzes on measurement and perimeter tom. Please sign and return. We have been working on increasing and decreasing patterns over the last couple of weeks and will be having an assessment on these outcomes on Thursday. Our class will be looking at organizing data and displaying that data in bar graphs this week too.
Gr 4- please keep working on your nightly multiplication/division facts to 81. The 4's have been working with patterns too, but we are looking at patterns in charts and tables. The 4's will also be reviewing how to make bar graphs and they will learn how to create pictographs.
Gr.6- great job on our quiz last week! I have explained to the students on multiple occasions how important it is to take your time and follow the formula step by step. We are looking at the relationships within tables of values to solve problems and the ability to represent and describe patterns and relationships using graphs and tables.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Hard to believe that we are heading into the last full week of January. All of the students have been working really hard.
Grade 3/4- I would like to see all students practicing their facts nightly at home. Grade 3's need to be working on +/- facts to 18. Grade 4's should be practicing their multiplication and division facts to 81 on a nightly basis ( review of +/- will help as well). The grade 3's have been working on measurement using cm and m. We have been estimating the length of objects and have been measuring them as well. The concept of perimeter has taught as well. The grade 4s have been looking at the concept of area. We will be having a quiz either this Friday or Monday (31st).
Gr. 6's having been working on developing formulas for perimeter, area, and volume. They would have had previous exposure to all of these concepts in earlier grades. We have been working on what formula to use and when. We will be having a quiz on Friday on this concept. I will be offering an extra help class Tuesday at lunch for anyone feeling that they would like some help.

What a great first week back! The students worked so hard and I am so very proud of them.
Grade 3- Keep working on those adding and subtracting facts to 18 nightly. We have been working on division and will be having a quiz on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
Grade 4- I would like to see the gr. 4's working on their multiplication facts to 81 on a nightly basis. The hard work is paying off. I can see it! Please don't forget to keep up the adding and subtracting facts as well. The 4's quiz will cover their facts to 81 and the related division facts. For example: 36 divided by 4 equals 9. They should say to themselves "four times what equals 36?". I will ask some 2 and 3 digit multiplication questions too. We are starting division of larger numbers now too, but I won't be quizzing them yet.
Grade 6- The students have been working so hard on estimating, measuring, and drawing angles. We will be having a quiz on this outcome on Tuesday, Jan. 12. I have been reminding everyone to keep practicing their facts at home.

I just wanted to make a quick note saying I did not send the gr. 3/4 quiz home yet. Between Xmas Concert, Amazing Race, and the last day of school, I did not get to see the 3/4's. I didn't think it would be a good idea to send them home on the last day. I will send them home the first day back in January!

Gr.3/4 -We are continuing work with division and will continue into the new year. Please sign and return the quiz that went home with the students.
Gr. 6- We have started to look at estimating and measuring angles. We will continue these concepts along with drawing angles in the new year.

The grade 3/4's will be having a quiz on Friday. This will include: Gr.3- adding and subtracting facts to 18, and multiplication (drawing equal groups pictures, arrays, and repeated addition) up to products of 36. We are working through division, but I will not be assessing that outcome on Friday. The 4's will be assessed on multiplication facts to 81, I have been asking them to study their facts each night. Also, they will be completing 2 and 3 digit multiplication by 1 digit. I do not assign a lot of math homework, so I do expect that the students are taking 10 min each night to stay on top of adding, subtracting, and multiplication facts.
Grade 6's will be having a quiz on Friday (Dec. 11). This will include multiplication and division of decimals. It is very important for students to be reviewing math facts each night. We have noticed in class that sometimes our adding/subtracting facts cause us little errors, so reviewing these are very helpful too.
