  • I just wanted to thank everyone for attending "Meet the Teacher" night last week.  It was wonderful to be able to meet most of my parents.  For those of you who were unable to attend, please feel free to call or e-mail me at school if you have any questions/concerns.
  • We have an exciting and busy week planned!  Rick Hansen will be stopping by our school on Tuesday before lunch.  This will be a tremendous opportunity for our students to see such an incredible role model.
  • A reminder that our Health assignment is due on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
  • Students should be filling in their "Read our way Across Canada" bookmarks to monitor their nightly reading (20 min).  If they have misplaced theirs, I can give them another copy.  I have noticed that quite a few students keep them in their plastic pocket in their agenda. This is an awesome idea.
  • This week we will be starting to pick our subjects for the Biography writing assignment that we will be completing over the next couple of weeks.
  • Grade 5 math- continue to review your multiplication facts. Our test will be early next week.
  • Grade 4 math- provincial math assessments will be written on Tuesday, October 4th and Wednesday, October 5th.
  • It is hard to believe that this is the final week of September!  Let's enjoy it!

  • Just a reminder to everyone that Wednesday night (Sept. 21) is Meet the Teacher night!  We will be meeting in the Music room at 6:30 p.m.  I hope to see everyone there!
  • Thank you to everyone for sending in the "Toonies for Terry" last week. We had a wonderful walk Friday afternoon.  He is a true Canadian hero.
  • We have been focusing on the reading comprehension strategy called "Self-Monitoring."  Students self-monitor constantly in their everyday lives.  To self-monitor, readers need to:  set a purpose for reading (enjoyment or finding specific info.), ask themselves questions to monitor their understanding, recognize when comprehension is flowing smoothly and when there is a problem, and they need to know what the problem is and how to try and fix it.  Our writing focus for this unit will be writing Biographies.
  • The Grade 5's started their unit on Whole Numbers.  Students will be representing numbers up to        1 000 000.  This includes writing the standard form of numbers, expanded form of numbers, and the written form of numbers.  We will also be working on estimation strategies. In grade 5, we will be reviewing multiplication facts up to 9 times 9 ( I do cover 10's and 11's too).  Please be aware that these will be on the homework board most evenings!
  • We have a Health assignment due on Tuesday, September 27.  I have reminded all of the students that they are to complete a rough copy in their Health scribbler for most of the sections.  They seem to be doing a great job.  I am also stressing that it is a great idea to do a little each night.  This way it will not be left to the night before.  I will be giving some class time this week to work on it.
  • Our class is off to a great start!  I love teaching all of your children and I look forward to school each day!  Hope to see you all on Wednesday night!

A Great First Week!

  • I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for a super first week of school. Thank you to all of the parents for taking the time to write to me about your child.  This input is very much appreciated.
  • A reminder that lunch orders are due Monday morning.  There is a change this year. We will be collecting money on a monthly basis instead of a weekly basis.
  • Please return the student information forms back to the school if you have not already done so.
  • We have been working on our "I Am" poems over the last few days and our good copies will be due on Tuesday.
  • Grade 5 math-students can be reviewing their multiplication facts each night.  I am suggesting that they start with the 0,1,2, and 3 facts.  There is a chart in the back of our agenda's to help the students review.
  • Meet the teacher will be on Wednesday, September 21st at 6:30 p.m.
  • Looking forward to another great week!
