November 26- December 3

  • Grade 3/4- I would like to see everyone continue working on their math facts each night.  The gr. 4's should be reviewing multiplication facts up to 9x9 each night.  I will send home a multiplication handout next week with the grade 3's. Our focus in this grade is understanding the concept of what multiplication means by working with arrays, equal groupings (pictures), repeated addition, and skip counting.  The 4's are learning 2 and 3 digit by 1 digit multiplication problems as well. I will introducing division in the next week or so.
  • Grade 6- should be reviewing math facts nightly.  I told the class they were having a small quiz on factors, multiples, prime, and composite numbers tom. (Friday).  They have been starting to work with multiplication of decimals.  Estimation of where the decimal goes is a focus within this outcome. The students need to say to themselves "What makes sense here?"

Week of November 16-19

  • I hope everyone has had a beautiful weekend!  The weather is definitely becoming cooler out there.
  • Grade 3/4-  We are continuing our work with skip counting  by 3,4,10, 100 and 25's forward and backwards.  The 3's are beginning to look at multiplication as equal groups, arrays, and repeated addition.  For example, 3x5 would be 3 groups of five, 5+5+5, or an array that may look like this 3 rows of 5      *****
  •                                               *****
  •                                               *****
  • We will be doing lots of practice drawing the equal group pictures and arrays to match the multiplication fact.  The grade 4's will be doing the same except they will be working with math facts up to 9x9.
  • Grade 3/4 will be having a math quiz on their adding and subtracting facts to 18 on Wednesday.
  • Grade6-  The grade 6's have been working on factors and multiples of numbers.  Also, we have been learning about prime and composite numbers.  I will be discussing an assignment with them Monday that I am thinking will be due on Thursday.  It will be a math/art activity on multiples of a number.
  • Have a wonderful week everyone.
