Week of Oct.24-26

  • Wow! It is so hard to believe that another week has passed by!  This is a short week because of the teacher's convention.
  • Grade 2 Language Arts- There will be no spelling quiz this week because of it being such a short week.  We will just be reviewing the words that we have had so far.  Please read with your child Monday and Tuesday evening and pick a few comprehension questions from the front of the duotang.  Thank you so much for signing each evening.  The students are just finishing up writing their recounts (personal narratives).
  • Grade 4 math- I will be sending the adding/subtracting quiz home at the first of the week. Please sign and return.  Probably starting in mid November I will be shifting the nightly adding/subtracting practice to multiplication/division practice.  We still need to stay on top of the adding/subtracting facts though. We are starting our unit on fractions next week.
  • Grade 3 math-  We will be having a quiz on Tuesday on adding/subtracting facts to 18, skip counting forward and backward by 10,100, 5, 25, 3 and 4's to 1000, and illustrating place value.  They have been working really hard in class.  Keep up the nightly fact practice.  We will be starting adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers to 1000 next.  This will include estimation and mental math practice as well.
  • I hope everyone has a great week!

Week of October 17-21

  • I hope everyone has a great weekend!  It is definitely starting to feel like fall!
  • Grade 4 math-  I am hoping to have a quiz next Friday (Oct.21) on adding/subtracting four digit numbers to 10 000.  Keep reviewing the adding and subtracting facts each night.
  • Grade 3 math-  We will continue to work on adding/subtracting facts to 18, skip counting forwards an and backwards by 3,4,5,10,100 and 25's, and place value.  It is very important for the students to be taking 15 min. each evening to be reviewing their facts to 18.  This is the only homework that I am asking them to do right now.
  • Have a great week everyone!

Week of October 11-14th

  • I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!

* Grade 2- Reading: Read for 15-20 minutes each evening.  Please continue to discuss with your  child what they have read, to ask questions about their reading
  • Note:  When you listen to your child read orally, please make sure that they are “reading” the punctuation.
    *  When your child comes to an end of a sentence, does it sound like the end of a sentence or do they keep reading through the period as if it isn’t there?
    *  When there is a question mark at the end of a sentence, does your child change their voice to make it sound like a question?
    *  When there are “quotation marks”, does your child change their voice to indicate that someone is speaking?
    *  When there is an exclamation mark (!) at the end of the sentence, does your child change their voice to indicate excitement or a change in voice volume?
  • Grade 3 math- We have been working on skip counting forwards and backwards by 10, 5, 25, 100, and are starting to count by 3's and 4's to 1000.  We start from various points.  For ex. 61, 71, 81 etc. We will also be continuing our work on illustrating place value and math facts to 18.  These outcomes will be our focus for the month of October.  Homework will be practice math facts & skip counting nightly.
  • Grade 4 math- Please continue to review the addition/subtraction math facts to 18 on a nightly basis.  We will soon be shifting to our multiplication and division facts. We are continuing to work this week on adding/subtracting 4 digit numbers to 10 000.
  • Have a great week everyone.
