  • We are finishing up Mystery at Cranberry Farm this week.  The students have loved every second of it and I am sad to be finishing it on Tuesday.  Keep an eye out for a novel project that I will be assigning mid-week.
  • We are continuing to work on our persuasive writing throughout the week. The students will be choosing their topic to write about mid-week as well.
  • My math students were on fire this week!  I am so proud of their efforts!
  • I would like to extend an invitation to any parent/guardian who would like to come in and read a favorite book to our class for Family Literacy Day on Friday, January 27. If you are interested, you can either send in a note, give me a call, or send an email (klmullins@edu.pe.ca) to set up a time. We would love to have you!
  • Last full week of January....let's have a great one!

  • We will be continuing to read Mystery at Cranberry Farm this week.  I am positive that everyone is enjoying the novel.  One of my favorite feelings as a teacher is to have my students want to continue reading.  I had this feeling every single day this week. :o)
  • We have been talking about the reading comprehension strategy of "Evaluating."  To evaluate, readers need to: recognize the difference between fiction, non-fiction, and info-fiction texts, form opinions about the content presented to them, be willing to confirm or adjust their opinions as they read and learn others' view, see events from other people's perspectives, back up their opions with evidence from the text, and critique the author's craft.
  • The grade 5' are having an oral math fact quiz on Thursday. Mr. Martin has been sending home flash cards for the grade 4's each night to be reviewed.
  • I am looking forward to another great week!

  • What a great way to start 2012!  I am so proud of the effort that everyone put into their work last week.  Let's keep this up!
  • I am so excited to be starting our novel study on Mystery at Cranberry Farm!  This is my favorite fictional novel and I hope the students enjoy it as much as I do! We will be working on persuasive writing over the next few weeks as well.
  • Book order is due on Tuesday, January 10th.
  • The Grade 5's have started a new unit on multiplying and dividing larger numbers.  It is very important for the students to be reviewing math facts each night. They will be having an oral quiz on their math facts on Thursday, January 19th.
  • Have a great week everyone!
